The number three on a sandy surface

In the world of numbers, they may all seem equal, but some resonate more deeply with our psyche than others. Take the number three, for instance. It’s a number that pops up repeatedly in our lives and literature:

  • Three Little Pigs

  • The Father, The Son and the Holy Ghost

  • On Your Mark, Get Set, Go

  • Rub the lamp and get three wishes

  • The Fellowship of the Ring (better known to some as The Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King)

I bet your mind is racing with other triads now that I’ve brought it up. As someone who loves to ponder these patterns, I see them everywhere!

While I didn't set out to intentionally weave the concept of three into my work at Beacon & Blade, it happened naturally. I’m the kind of person that tends to overthink just a tad. Sometimes that’s a struggle, but oftentimes it brings a powerful depth to whatever I’m dreaming up. That’s exactly what happened with Beacon & Blade.

The layers of meaning in our company name remind me daily what we are setting out to do, how we are setting out to do it, and the foundation that it is all built upon. Here’s a peek into what they mean to me.

Beacon & Blade Logo

The Beacon

In our personal lives, we construct a belief system from various pillars, and use them as a guide, informing the choices we make every day. For me, my faith, my family and my love for The Lord of the Rings (among other nerdy interests!) form the basis of my personal beacon. Everything I do radiates out from there.

For businesses, EOS® (the Entrepreneurial Operating System) serves as a similar guiding influence. It provides a structured playbook for navigating growth, overcoming obstacles, and celebrating successes. It helps align teams with clarity and purpose, keeping everyone focused on what truly matters, from the big picture all the way to the day-to-day details.

This is why I love being a team that runs on EOS, working with other teams that run on EOS. It offers a shared beacon for us all, with a common language and a clear system that keeps us all moving in the same direction.

The Blade

The blade represents action and decisiveness— cutting through the noise and tackling the big issues head-on.  It’s about cutting through distractions and pushing through challenges, getting real results instead of getting in our own way.

We all get stuck from time to time, both personally and professionally. The Blade is about moving beyond that, slicing our way through the rut, pushing ourselves into the stream of forward momentum.

As Integrators, we must embody the blade each day, guiding our team to slice through distractions—no matter how small. If it’s a squirrel in an important meeting, we must cut through it gently, but firmly. If it’s a massive project issue that threatens to tank the project’s profitability, we must cut through quickly, with a measured decisiveness.

The Ampersand

Last but not least, the ampersand is a small but significant part of our logo. Originating from the Latin word for "and," you'll note that it’s the only image we chose to include. That’s because it holds deep meaning for us; it symbolizes the essence of collaboration and teamwork, reminding us that none of our achievements happen in isolation. It celebrates the blending of different strengths and the collective power of our team, which is at the heart of everything we do.

Together, we become more than the sum of our parts.

The Duo

Beacon & Blade represents everything we set out to be and do, but at its core, it brings together the power we are truly most passionate about: a great Visionary/Integrator duo. A strong team flourishes when a Visionary sets a clear direction (the Beacon) and an Integrator tackles the obstacles that stand in the way (the Blade).

When designing our branding, we intentionally left out specific imagery in the logo. It’s not about the type of beacon or blade; it’s about how we utilize them. Each of us brings unique strengths to the table, and when we collaborate, that’s when the magic truly happens.
